The first version is the basic AMD-V / Intel VT support in the cpu. The 2nd version, the full IOMMU support, has to come from the chipset as can be found in the Intel chipsets for the Core iX platform. VirtualBox and VMware would, but with reduced speed. Xen is the only solution that would give you a good performance. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I assume a CPU with AMD-V or Intel VT-x. If I had no previous experience, I&amp;#39;d probably use KVM. It&amp;#39;s way easier. Since I wrote that post it got even better support in most distributions, while Xen dom0 support is now quite poor. Xen means spending few days learning, getting (often compiling) the software, configuring the system. If you want to put Xen experience in your resume, go ahead. If not, probably not worth the effort.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3833634700318167346/8566953180352097958/comments/default/2432871075100764177'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3833634700318167346/8566953180352097958/comments/default/2432871075100764177'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://virtually-a-machine.blogspot.com/2009/08/xen-vs-kvm-and-rest-of-world.html?showComment=1264078675400#c2432871075100764177' title=''/><author><name>igor</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/05718842318333765786</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://virtually-a-machine.blogspot.com/2009/08/xen-vs-kvm-and-rest-of-world.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3833634700318167346.post-8566953180352097958' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3833634700318167346/posts/default/8566953180352097958' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-1742517873'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.displayTime' value='January 21, 2010 1:57 PM'/></entry></feed>
